Our buddy Rick Pass, a duck decoy artist, recently attended a major event where he received several awards. He wrote:
Ever since returning from Ocean City, Maryland, the time has seemed to fly by!!! My carving partner and I had a great time.
After spending a week in Minnesota, learning painting skills from Laurie McNeil, we spent another two full days learning how to paint a feather from another world class carver.
Attached you will find a photo of my entries and the ribbon(s) each carving earned.
The Pintail Drake and the Red-breasted Merganser Hen both won first place in their species. The next round was the PD being judged with all first place winners in the puddle duck division and the RBM in the diver duck division. Both earned 3rd place there. To be selected for a Best of Show ribbon, the carving needs to win the species, the division and then compete against the all division winners for a BOS ribbon.
A Blue ribbon is 1st place, a Red ribbon is 2nd place, a yellow ribbon is 3rd place, and a green ribbon is an Honorable Mention. All my entries received a ribbon. 🙂
I am working a Widgeon Drake in preparation for a week long painting class in Edmonton, Canada in early July from 16-time world champion, Pat Godin.
Hope all is going well with you personally and at the top of the line art store!
