The Cannon Beach Arts Association Is Seeking A Program Director
The Cannon Beach Arts Association’s mission is to support, fund and enhance the arts and artists in Cannon Beach and the region through education, events and exhibits. The Association has been operating since 1986 and is an established 501c3 supported by 9 Board members and many community sponsors. The Program Director reports to the Chair of the Cannon Beach Arts Association. The gallery is co-located with a coffee house/bakery in midtown Cannon Beach and features monthly exhibits. A second location in Sandpiper Square is utilized for artist talks and workshops. Our other programs include Summer Art Camp, a Summer Internship, an Individual Artist Grant, workshops and artist talks along with student scholarships. Cannon Beach is a natural haven for artists and an attraction to travelers worldwide.

Skills and Knowledge Required of the Program Director
Knowledge
• An understanding and appreciation of art and the art environment; particularly hanging art exhibits, attracting artists and art patrons.
• Grant writing and management.
• Marketing, fund raising and the use of social media.
• Computer skills and a willingness to learn new applications is a must. Microsoft Office and Quick Books are used to effectively monitor budgets and grants, prepare reports and market services.
• Website maintenance
Skills
• Working effectively with diverse populations; relating to the Gallery Committee, gallery patrons, Association members, potential sponsors, volunteer training and coordination, internship training and oversight.
• Organization and coordination skills; relating to scheduling shows, art sales and exhibitions, arranging and securing guest jurors, coordinating receptions.
• Personnel Coordination; relating to working with the Board of Directors, Gallery Committee, volunteers and interns.
• Record maintenance; related to Gallery exhibit records, volunteer hours, inventory, cash and expenses.
• Communication; related to individuals and organizations, acting as the spokesperson for the organization and building relationships with the local community.
• Provide professional insights and assistance to the Board to support the Mission and Objectives of the organization.
• Develop potential funding and membership opportunities.
• Proper handling of art including shipping and receiving of art.
This is a 30-hour per week $18.00 per hour position. Please send cover letter and resume that includes past employers and three references to the attention of Lila Wickham. Contemporary Portraiture
Call For Entry
Juror: Martha Lee, Owner of Russo Lee Gallery
Cannon Beach Arts Association is pleased to be announcing the call for work for our first juried show of 2017. The theme for the show is contemporary portraiture and is a complimentary show to the Au Natural exhibition happening at Clatsop Community College. In today’s “selfie culture” this is the perfect opportunity to explore what role portraits now play in society.
 
In addition to the juried exhibition we are excited to say that a non-juried show will be happening in our new space located in Sandpiper Square. The Creative Coast Project Space will host a salon-hung exhibition for any artwork left over from the jurying process. This exhibition will run during the same time frame as our main show and will provide a wonderful opportunity for all the artwork submitted to be viewed.
 
Criteria
  • Work should freely interpret the exhibition theme Contemporary Portraiture.
  • 2D work should not exceed 36 inches in any dimension (including frame) and should weigh no more than 40 lbs.
  • 3D work should not exceed 36 inches and should weigh no more than 40lbs.
  • Work can be in any medium.
  • Each artist can submit three works.
  • All submitted artwork must be exhibition ready with all appropriate hardware.
 
Important Dates
  • Submission Day: Saturday, February 11th, 11am – 4pm @ Creative Coast Project Space.
  • Early submissions may be brought to the Creative Coast Project Space located in Sandpiper Square. Open hours are 11am – 4pm, Wednesday through Saturday.
  • Selections to be made the morning of February 13th.
  • Calls to artists: Wednesday, February 15th, 9am – Noon.
  • Collection of Unselected work from Project Space: February 15th, Noon – 4pm    & February 16th, 11am – 4pm.
  • Late Collections: Please call 503-436-4426 to make arrangements to pick up artwork from Creative Coast Project Space.
  • Exhibition Reception: Saturday, February 18th, 6pm – 8pm.
  • Exhibition Dates: February 18th – March 26th.
  • Collection of Unsold works: March 29, 30 & 31, location and time of pick up TBA.
 
Submissions by Mail
  • All artwork submitted by mail MUST arrive by Saturday, February 11th.
  • All shipped artwork MUST include return packaging or reusable packaging AND a paid return label.
  • FedEx & UPS Packages MUST be sent to: Creative Coast Project Space, Suite 25, Sandpiper Square, Cannon Beach, OR 97110.
  • USPS Packages MUST be sent to: Cannon Beach Gallery, PO Box 684, Cannon Beach, OR 97110
**We are NOT LIABLE for the artwork if suitable return packaging is not included.
